| HAPPY HALLOWEEN! HAPPY OCTOBERFEST! HAPPY FALL! |
|
| We have so much going on this month that we should get started a little early. The first weekend is our first show & tell. We will be on the road with the "fabulous traveling Greyhounds" (thank you for the quote Jennifer) for a stop at the Petco in Carmel. The show & tell is from 10 - 3 at the Petco in the Crossroads Shopping Center. Karen, the manager, sells hot dogs with the proceeds going to our organization. It is a fun day and we love going there as they are so pet friendly in Carmel. After the show & tell, those of us who can, are going to Forge in the Forest for dinner. This restaurant even has a menu for the dogs. Will let you know how it is next month. If you are interested in participating, please contact me. The next event for the "traveling Greys" is the Campbell Octoberfest, Oct. 18th & 19th. This is the last of the Williams Craft Fairs and a great event every year. We have always had a wonderful time. If you would like to volunteer, again, contact me. Last but not least in October is our second annual picnic on October 25th. We will be sending out forms in e-mail for advanced registration. There will be more about this later. |

Pet Expo!

| For all of you who attended and helped out with the Pet Expo, the Pleasanton BBQ Cook-off and Greyhound Planet Day, a HUGE THANK YOU! Your efforts were rewarded. It was a very successful weekend despite the unbelievable heat. We even had an adoption. |

| Candy Caution | |
| Each year, when Halloween comes around, we warn you about leaving candy around. For all of our new adopters, don't forget that chocolate is toxic for our Greyhounds and all dogs. Also, with lots of strangers coming to the door on Halloween night, we keep our Greys behind the dog gate so that they can see but not "touch" the "trick or treaters." Before we had the gate, we used chairs. This way, the children who are afraid of dogs can see that they are safe and the ones who love dogs, are kept at bay and yet still able to see them. We all know how much most of our Greyhounds love company. For the ones who are skittish and shy, they might be more comfortable tucked away on their pillows with a treat of their own. Another caution this time of year is to watch your Greyhound for signs that it may be getting cold, especially at night. My Scottie pulls the pillow on top of her when she gets cold. Many of us have "jammies" for our Greys, but just a light throw usually does the trick. |

| New Adoptions | |
| Lloyd and Carol Stark adopted Cherries Jubilee as a companion to their Greyhound Grace. The Starks have quite a menagerie including camels, llamas and many other assorted pets. Cherry is doing very well adjusting. Paul & Christy Lucero and their children, Brittany and Jake adopted Tux (Matrix). Tux is leading a full life for a young Greyhound and loving it. Drew & Linda Savage have adopted Niki (Charity). Niki is a non-racing Greyhound that we rescued and has been in foster care in Fresno, learning how to be a couch potato. Drew, her new "Daddy" is taking a week off to help her adjust. Thank you all for giving two retired racing Greyhounds and one non-racing Greyhound wonderful "forever homes." |
