Rain, Rain, Go Away!
Well, I don't know about your Grey(s), but mine are really sick of all the rain and have a bad case of cabin fever.  They are constantly begging us to take them with us, even if it's just to the post office and back.  Even Shadow, my shy boy, wants to get out.  Just being outside for two days at the San Juan Bautista Show & Tell perked us up.  We always start off our Show & Tell season with San Juan Bautista and once again, it was a great start.  Thank you to all of you who helped.
Mini Show and Tells
We have been doing mini show & tells at the local pet stores and the response has been wonderful.  Our Modesto group started this and now our South Bay group and our San Jose group are getting out there.  It is a wonderful way to get the word out in a very short amount of time.  We go in, with the manager's approval of course, and hand out fliers and give out information, usually between 11 and 1 on Saturday.  We have a poster to put up and will bring chairs for the humans and pillows for the dogs to lay down.  The managers have been very generous in clearing space for us.  Our wonderful Greys sell themselves with their friendly personalities.  If you are interested in doing this, remember, the flier is on the web site or you can contact me for the file.
Solvang Success
All of us who went to the Solvang Greyhound Fest are happy to report that we had a blast.  Teri Roga and her crew did a fabulous job of organizing the events and we were welcomed with open arms by the people of Solvang.  I was very proud of my two boys, Sprocket and McDuff in the Streak.  They were clocked at 20 mph.  This is a huge improvement for Sprocket who only ran 8 mph last year.  Our organization was very well represented this year and it was so much fun to see all of you there.  Also, Teddy Palmer came from Oklahoma.  We get most of our dogs through Teddy and she had everybody put blue ribbons on her dogs.  There were a lot of blue ribbons as she supplies dogs to many of the groups in California and the west coast.   I know we spent way too much money and came home tired, broke and happy.  Can't wait to go again next year.  We already have our reservations.  It will take place the weekend of Feb. 23rd, 24th & 25th in 2007.
Available Greys!
We have several wonderful Greyhounds ready for adoption, two males and three females.  The males are Marshall (not cat safe, he's 5.5 years old and very well trained by his foster parents) and Ball (tested cat safe, shy and very sweet and affectionate).  The females are Erica (not cat safe, 3 years old and very outgoing), Sidney (tested cat safe, 4.5 years old and a real sweetheart) and Stella (4 years old, very sweet although she does not do well with other dogs and would be a wonderful "only child").   If you or anyone you know would be interested in more information about them, let me know and I can put you in touch with their fosters.
Best in Show!
Congratulations to Sandy (Kiamichi Toco) who belongs to Judy Smith.  Judy took Sandy to a Greyhound Reunion in Virginia, and Sandy won "Best in Show."  Sandy is a beautiful fawn.  Good for you Miss Sandy.
It's Time For Yardwork!
This is the time of year that we are thinking about sprucing up our yards, front and back.  A warning, cocoa mulch is reported to be toxic to dogs.  Many of the local home improvement centers sell this, so be aware of what you are buying.  We don't want anything to happen to our Greys.

Juarez Greyhound News
The following was released to the press today by Rory Goree:

JUAREZ GREYHOUNDS COMING HOME

Adoption Groups Needed to Find Homes for the Former Racers

The manager of the greyhound racetrack in Juarez, Mexico has released 126 greyhounds that were racing at the track to Greyhound Pets of America for adoption. The greyhounds have not raced since mid-December.

“The management of Juarez made a commitment to Greyhound Pets of America that the greyhounds racing at Juarez would be returned to the U.S. for placement of pets once their racing careers were over,” said Rory Goree, president of Greyhound Pets of America (GPA). “This is truly a promise made and a promise kept.”

During this time the greyhounds have remained in the kennel and have been cared for with the help of GPA National, GPA-El Paso. They will remain in the kennel until they can be vaccinated and haulers can be identified to move the greyhounds to adoption groups in the U.S. and Canada. Greyhounds should be ready to move across the border in approximately three weeks.

GPA is asking for the help of adoption groups throughout the U.S. and Canada to commit to taking greyhounds from Juarez until suitable homes can be found. If your group is willing to take one or more of these greyhounds, please contact Pat Roberts

We will be shortly loading up information about the hound at www.greyhoundpets.org about the hounds available.

It will cost approximately $60.00 per dog to bring the Juarez Greyhounds back to the United States. Donations to Greyhound Pets of America to help with the expense are welcome. To donate, go to the Greyhound Pets of America website. Clicking on the "Donate" link near the top of the page will allow you to make your donation via PayPal. Please indicate that your donation is for the Juarez Greyhounds.

In lieu of a donation via PayPal, checks can be sent to:
