HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL GREYHOUND DADS!!!
June is here and we are off to a GREYT start. The Pleasanton Show & Tell was very successful and I'd like to thank all of you who participated. We had lots of new volunteers this time and the most often heard comment was how much fun a Show & Tell is and how easy it is. As Andrea Gaut pointed out, this is what she does every time she takes Lily for a walk. Our next event is the Campbell Highland Games and Celtic Gathering. This is Saturday, June 14th at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds on Tully Road in San Jose. The hours are from 9 - 6. We have room for lots of volunteers in all shifts. The shifts are 9 -12, 12 - 3 and 3 - 6. If you want to participate, let me know ASAP. Hope to see lots of you there.

Excuse me, can I pet your dog?
Speaking of walking your Greys. I'm sure all of you at one time or another have been stopped by people curious about your Greyhound. They usually have lots of questions and misinformation. Each time you stop and set them straight, ie they don't need a lot of room, they are not high energy, etc., you are doing a mini Show and Tell. Therefore, with this in mind, there are lots of places where we can take our Greys and help get the word out. For instance, Starbucks or any restaurant that has outdoor tables. Borders, Home Depot, sporting events (if your Grey can tolerate the noise) and street fairs. Many of you are already carrying fliers. For any of you who would like to get the fliers, we have them on the computer in "Word." They are two sided and easily folded. Let me know and I can e-mail them to you.

New Adoption Reps and Adoptions!
We would like to congratulate Ryan & Ashley Patton on becoming our first placement reps in the San Francisco area. They adopted Jordan and love him so much that they want to help others become Greyhound "parents." Thank you both.

Their first adoption was to Steven & Max Gray (appropriate name). They adopted Stella and her new name is Kafka. Kafka is the newest member of our "black pack." Our San Francisco group is growing.

We would also like to congratulate William and JoAnn Moe who adopted Starkist. William and JoAnn have horses and when Starkist saw them, he immediately barked out an hello. Reports say he is doing just fine.

True Greyhound Stories
Here is a little story that I thought was cute:

"A True Tail"

Last names omitted to protect the innocent...

Sunday afternoon is the time that we walk our dogs in the park in Modesto. Last Sunday Jack could not go so asked friend Joan if she would like to walk Greta. Joan said "Sure" and arrived on schedule to pick up this dog she knows so well. Greta jumped into Joan's van and away they went........only to return in two minutes. All had gone well until Joan reached the entrance gates of our mobile home park and Greta screamed the equivalent of " I DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT MY DADDY." Joan made a quick U, and just to be sure, tried it again. Same results. Greyhounds ! You gotta love 'em.

New Website!
Have you checked out the new web site? Jennifer keeps perfecting it and it looks wonderful! She asked me to point out the link on the photo page to her so that you can send in your pictures. This is easier than sending them through me. Also, you can now order books from Amazon about Greyhounds through our web site. We get a percentage from every sale so feel free to check it out.
You Say It's Your Birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUNE GREYS!!!
The June babies are Monte, Matti, Herbie, Callie, Autumn, Derby, KC,
Phoebe L., Bejeon, Mitsubishi, Stearman, Peter and Farley.
Hope you all have a wonderful day and get lots of treats and stuffies.
Upcoming Events!
Don't forget the 28th is the GPA-OC/GLA picnic in La Habra. If any of you are planning to go and need to know the best places to stay, they are the Residence Inns in either La Mirada or Placentia/Fullerton. Both are about equal distance from the park. You can get directions to the picnic from their web site, www.fastfriends.org.

We are already planning our booth for the Pet Fair in September. Jill Mazzie and her group in Fresno are contributing story boards with pictures done in an art deco theme. She would like to have lots of cute pictures so please e-mail them to her at mzmazzei@pacbell.net. Also, if any of you have any ideas for decorating the booth, please contact Delene Dunne at dogmum@valleyip.net. We have a big 10 X 20 foot space with lots of room for decorations. I know lots of you are very creative and we'd love to have your help.

At Last!
As many of you know, I am going in for surgery on June 19th. I have waited 10 years to get my new knee and the time has finally come. While I am recovering, the organization will continue to be run by Vice President, Delene Dunne with help from the other Board members. My e-mail will be monitored by Jennifer Morales who will forward your inquiries and new applications to the appropriate people. Sherrlyn Lancaster will also be helping with the paperwork and phone inquiries. If you have any questions or need help with anything, please feel free to call Delene at 209-836-9196 or e-mail her at dogmum@valleyip.net.
Summer In The City
A quick reminder, now that summer is here. Asphalt gets hot very quickly in the sun, even if the day is relatively cool. Little Greyhound feet can get burned. Also, for those of you who have white Greys, remember the suntan lotion. All Greys can get sunburned though, not just the whites. You just see it more on the white ones. Even little Greyhound noses are susceptible. Also, cars can get hot even if it's cool out. The same rules apply for Greyhounds or any other dogs as do for children. PLEASE DON'T TAKE A CHANCE - it is a terrible death for your dog and you will never be able to forgive yourself.
Northern Calistoga GPA!
Good luck to Jim and Petree Knighton who, with their Greys, Doolittle and Darby, will be participating in the Calistoga 4th of July Parade. The theme of their float is Greyhound Rescue. They are calling their float the "Northern Calistoga Section of Greyhound Pets of America," (members 2). Way to go!
Dear Dogs....
Another cute e-mail I received from Sharon Braun:

Dear Dogs

When I say to move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two dogs in the way.

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a pawprint in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by Nascar and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run.

I can not buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but doggy sarcasm.

When I am playing the pinball machine, jumping up and trying to grab the ball through the glass is not helpful. Barking at me because I'm not helping you achieve your goal does not win you any extra brownie points.

My compact discs are not miniature frisbees.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years, canine attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell other dogs butt. I can not stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you guys to make.

Have a GREYT summer.
